INTEGRATED SUBSCRIBER DIGITAL NETWORK (ISDN) LINE NOW OPERATIONAL

The Ministry of Public Works has installed and fully operationalised an Integrated Subscriber digital network (ISDN) line at its Private Automated Branch Exchange (PABX) telephone network to reduce the congestion that previously characterized operations at the switchboard. The facility is a digital exchange line comprising 30 channels, which makes it possible for 30 calls to be made at the same time using the line.
External callers can now directly dial an extension to any office in the Ministry without going through the Telephone Operator.
This major milestone is a demonstration of the Ministry’s endeavour to continually improve service delivery through investing in innovative tools and facilities that will engender efficient and effective communication for enhanced engagement with the public.
The pilot number is +254 020 4963000. If the caller knows the extension of the office he/she wants to reach, he/she simply replaces the last three digits of the pilot number, i.e. the three zeros (0) with the extension in case he/she is making a local call and add the prefix (020) before the pilot line if he/she is making a trunk call. Similarly, one can reach any office using mobile phone by dialing (020)4963000 and replacing the three zeros (0) with the extension.
However, calls made to the pilot number 4963000 will be received by the Telephone Operator and can still be transferred to any extension.
