Hon. Christopher Mogere Obure, EGH, M.P., Minister for Public Works was born on 29th September 1943 in Gucha District, Nyanza Province. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of East Africa at the University College of Nairobi.
He was awarded Medal of Elder of Golden Heart (EGH) on December 1999.
He worked with East African Bata Shoe Company Ltd. from June 1968 to June 1970 as an assistant Company Secretary. As a result of his dedication and hard work, he was promoted as the Company Secretary on June 1970 until June 1974.
Between 1974 and 1976, he served as the Company Secretary with the Kenya Breweries Ltd. Due to his productivity and tireless efforts towards the same organization, he was appointed as the Group Company Secretary and Director of Kenya Breweries Ltd. until the year 1993.
He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Majoge / Basin Constituency, Kisii District in the year 1983 where he served for one term. In the year 1988, he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Bobasi Constituency, Gucha District the position he has retained up to date.
He is a registered member with Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (UK), Kenya Institute of Public Secretaries (KIPS) and also member of Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
He has held various positions in Community Service which include; Kenya Football federation chairman, Kenya African National Union Secretary (KANU), KANU Chairman, Gucha District Branch and Member of the Governing Council of the ruling party, Deputy National Treasurer (KANU),team leader Bobasi Orange Referendum Campaign team, LDP Chairman, Bobasi branch and also the ODM Chairman, Bobasi Branch and a member of ODM plenary representing Nyanza province.
He once served as the Vice President at the Nairobi University College Students Organization in 1966 and 1967.In the year 1974 to 1978, he served as the Kenya Football League Secretary.
He started his Civil Service career way back in 1983 where he held the position of Assistant Minister in three Ministries until 1999.They included Min. of Labour, Min. of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and also Min. of Transport and Communications. Since 1999 and its subsequent years he has served as a minister in the following Ministries: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Ministry of Finance and on April 2008, he was appointed as the Minister for Public Works.
