Inspection Services

Buildings Inspection Services, as provided by the National Buildings Inspectorate, entail the following actions;

1.    Regulation and Development of Buildings Infrastructure, to ascertain their safety and suitability for occupation in Kenya.

2.    Inspection of Buildings Infrastructure and, when necessary, recommending validation and regularization of unsafe buildings.

3.    Auditing Buildings Infrastructure in Kenya

4.    Profile Buildings that do not meet the Construction industry and Occupancy Standards.

5.    Facilitating issuance of Occupational Certificates when deemed necessary.

6.    Issuance of Building Safety Certificate, as confirmation of safety, on buildings that have;

i)    Been inspected and audited, Prior to Habitation;

ii) Had remedial actions previously recommended that have been acted on.

7.    Conducting Building Safety testing, Quality Assurance and assessing the structural integrity of Buildings in Kenya.

8.    Registration and inspection of Building Materials & Suppliers.

9.    Registration of Accreditations of Conformity Assessment Bodies(CABs) in the Building Sector.

10.Together-with relevant stakeholders, develop an integrated national system to support Buildings Development and Management activities

11. Implement legal measures and enforce industry-recommended actions following building audits and assessments.

12. Developing and implementing a National Buildings Maintenance Policy.

13. Planning the Development and Implementation of Safety Policies and Regulations for in Kenya

14. Development of Probabilistic Risk Hazards Tool to assess hazards and inventory the Country’s Building Assets at risk, focusing on threat to Building Infrastructure.

15. Coordinate mainstreaming of Climate Change Resilience, Adaptation and Mitigation strategies in Kenya's built environment.

16. Development and management of an institutional framework aimed at implementing Green Building Standards

17. Coordination of the Multi-Sectoral Agencies Consultative Committee for Unsafe Buildings-MSACC- incorporating representatives from various State Agencies, selected Counties, regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders in the built environment.

18. Public Education and sensitization on Buildings sector regulations and standards

19. Publish Annual Building Safety Statistics Report in Kenya.
