Tree Planting by the State Department for Public Works
The State Department for Public Works in collaboration with Board for Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS), National Construction Authority (NCA), Nyeri County technical staff, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), parents, teachers, the pupils and the local community yesterday (1st April, 2026) participated in tree planting exercise in Nyeri County in Ikinyu dam which is a riparian area and also the Gitathini Comprehensive School. The event was graced by the Secretary Administration, Mr. Fred Ouma who was the Chief Guest and BORAQs CEO Mr. Mwongera. The Nyeri team was led by area District County Commissioner Mr. Nyunyi.
In his remarks the Secretary appreciated the team for good turn out emphasizing the need for embracing the exercise which will go along way in protecting the environment. He encouraged participants to take pride individually and collectivley noting that it's the small efforts of each one of us that yield greater impact of environmental preservation. Tree planting was done on 1st April, 2026 at Kiunyu Dam at Nyeri County. More trees were planted at Gitero Primary school and Gitero Polytechnic.
Over 1000 trees were planted and adopted by the pupils, students and community.
In attendance also were Board Members for Boraqs, staff of the State Department for Public Works and Consultants drawn from both BORAQs and Association of Architects of Kenya from both Nairobi and Nyeri Regions.
